Pallet Courier | What You Need to Know About Pallet Buying

If you’re a new business or have recently found yourself in need of a pallet courier there are things to take into account before purchasing your pallets. Depending on what you’re shipping, where, and when it needs to arrive in its destination, you will want to choose a pallet and service provider that fits your needs perfectly. Before jumping into your pallet order here are a few things to consider.

Stringer & Block Pallets

Pallets can be divided into two subcategories: stringer and block pallets. Stringers have three long pieces of wood to support the perimeter frame and middle strip of wood. Block pallets are the more standard pallets and are usually used for heavier shipments.

Pallet Materials

So as to not paralyse you with an inundation of the many materials used to make pallets, we’ll outline just a few here. The typical pallet is made of wood and will fulfil a number of shipping needs. These pallets can be resold, repurposed, are more inexpensive than others, and can be recycled. Their advantages far outweigh disadvantages such as their difficulty to clean, weight, and possibility of splinters or warping.

Metal and aluminium pallets are also options for companies that need a little extra support for transporting their products. Stronger material means these pallets are less likely to break under stress. They are also viewed as appealing to restaurants or companies using them to transport or store food because they can easily be cleaned. Unlike wood pallets these can also be stored outside for long periods of time without the worry of deterioration. The disadvantage is that these pallets are heavier and thus cost more to transport.

Plastic, cardboard, presswood, and plywood pallets are also options that could suit you depending on what you’re shipping.

International Requirements

Different countries require that pallets be of different specific dimensions. Before ordering we will notify you which pallets are and aren’t accepted by the country you’re shipping to. If shipping internationally you’ll need to adhere to the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15. This ensures that pallets in use won’t be harbouring wood-borne insects and diseases. Again, no need to stress as we ensure that all our pallets meet international shipping standards.

Recycling Pallets

Most pallets have long-lasting lives serving your company. However, when they can no longer serve their function, what should you do? Wooden pallets can easily be repurposed for new uses within the workplace or at home. If not, your local dump or recycling centre should accept your pallets. Pallets can even be sold if the right purchaser can be found.

Now that you’ve been primed with the basics of pallets you’re just about ready to make your purchase. If you have any inquires at all feel free to call us at 0345 260 1086
